I wrote this on the night of April 12, 2015:
"I, Ata Doğruel, have an intention to do a 13-day performance. During these 13 days, including the time spent alone, I will not speak. When I need to communicate, I must rely only on writing and body language. The performance will begin on April 13, 2015, and end at noon on April 25, 2015."
Everything started with this. On April 12, the idea suddenly came to my mind, and I thought I should implement it the next day. Generally, when a performance idea comes to mind and doesn't require any tools, I prefer to start the next day. Starting unprepared always feels more exciting. Like a journey into the unknown. Discovering the path as you progress.
The next day, I took a notebook and a pen, and wrote on it, "I'm not speaking for 13 days. April 13-25." Then, I continued with my daily life. Thinking of the entire 13 days as a whole created fear, so I tried to focus on the next hour. It was the most unique 13 days I've ever experienced. Similar to the 9-day hunger experiment in March, I kept journals during this process.
